I became familiar with
Josh's percussion style while watching him perform with the Marshwiggles.
I was immediately taken by the passion he poured into his playing. His
style is loose and full of feeling. He goes the extra mile to blend
instrument sounds that complement one another, even reaching for percussion
sounds from unusual sources : slinkys, pants legs, paper. To
me, as an acoustic player, his forte is accompanying acoustic music. While
he can drive the beat on any of his louder instruments, he is not afraid to play
quietly and simply provide a whispering texture behind a dressed down song.
There seems to be a scarce few percussionists who will go both directions. |
